Safety switches and smoke alarms
from $160
A safety switch cuts the power in a fraction of a second if current starts flowing through a person. Many older boards have one covering the power points and nothing on the lights, oven or hot water. We add them to the circuits that are missing one. We also replace smoke alarms, which have a ten-year life printed on the back, and fit hard-wired alarms with a battery backup.
What is included
- A check of which circuits have a safety switch and which do not
- Safety switches fitted to unprotected circuits
- Trip time tested on each safety switch with a meter
- Hard-wired smoke alarms with battery backup, fitted or replaced
- Old alarms removed and taken away
- Certificate of Electrical Safety for the work
How we do it
- 01We check what you haveFrom a photo of the board we can usually tell which circuits are protected and whether there is room for more.
- 02Fixed priceYou get a price per safety switch and per alarm, so you can decide how much to do in one visit.
- 03Fitted and testedPower is off for an hour or two. Each switch is trip tested and each alarm is sounded before we go.
- 04Labelled and certifiedThe board is labelled so you know what each switch protects, and the certificate follows.
Signs you need this
- Only one switch on the board has a test button
- Pressing the test button does nothing
- A smoke alarm that chirps or is more than ten years old
- Smoke alarms that have yellowed or have no date on the back
- Bedrooms or hallways with no smoke alarm nearby
