EV charger installation
from $1,200
A home charger needs its own circuit from the switchboard, and the first question is whether the house has the capacity. We add up what you already run, check the supply and the board, and tell you what will work. Most single-phase homes suit a 7 kW charger, often with load management so it backs off when the oven is on. The price is for installation. The charger itself is extra.
What is included
- A load check of your existing supply before anything is quoted
- A dedicated circuit with the breaker and safety switch the maker specifies
- Cable run from the switchboard to the charger, in conduit where exposed
- Your charger mounted, set up and tested with your car
- Load management set up where the supply is tight
- Certificate of Electrical Safety for the installation
How we do it
- 01Photos and a load checkSend photos of the switchboard and where the car parks. We work out the capacity and the cable route.
- 02Written quoteOne price for the install, with the cable length and any switchboard work it depends on spelled out.
- 03Installation dayMost installs take half a day. The power is off for part of it while the new circuit is connected.
- 04Tested with your carWe plug in, check the charge rate, show you the app settings and send the certificate.
Signs you need this
- You charge from a normal power point and it takes all night and more
- The charging lead runs out a window or under the garage door
- The power point you charge from feels warm
- You want to charge on off-peak rates or from your solar
- A second electric car is on the way
