Questions
Asked before most bookings
Straight answers on cost, timing, licences and what happens on the day.
Q.01How much does it cost to get an electrician out?
A fault call-out is $140 including GST, which covers travel and the first half hour on site. After that it is $35 per 15 minutes until the fault is found. Once we know the cause you get a price for the repair before we do it. Planned work such as power points, lights and switchboards is quoted as one fixed price, so there is no call-out fee on top.
Q.02How soon can you come out?
For a fault, ring before 2 pm on a weekday and we will be there the same day. Saturday mornings we take urgent calls as they come. Planned jobs such as new power points or a safety check are usually booked within the week. A switchboard upgrade or an EV charger is typically one to two weeks out, because we check the supply and order parts first.
Q.03Do you give fixed prices?
Yes, for anything we can see or measure before we start: power points, lighting, safety switches, smoke alarms, switchboards, chargers and rental checks. The price is in writing and it is what you pay unless you ask us to add something. Fault finding is the exception. Nobody knows the cause yet, so the search is charged by time and the repair is then priced before we do it.
Q.04Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. The work is carried out by A-Grade electricians and Fenwright Electrical is a Registered Electrical Contractor in Victoria. We hold public liability insurance. Registration details and a certificate of currency are available on request before we start, and you are welcome to ask for them.
Q.05Will I get a Certificate of Electrical Safety?
Yes. A Certificate of Electrical Safety is issued for our electrical installation work, as Energy Safe Victoria requires. It records what was done and that it was tested. Prescribed work, such as a switchboard or mains job, is also inspected by an independent licensed electrical inspector. Keep the certificate with your house papers. Buyers and insurers sometimes ask for it.
Q.06What warranty do you give?
Our workmanship is warranted in writing for 12 months. If something we installed or repaired fails in that time because of how we did it, we come back and fix it at no charge. Parts such as breakers, fittings and chargers carry the manufacturer's own warranty, and we handle the claim for anything we supplied.
Q.07Which suburbs do you cover?
We are based in Preston and work in Reservoir, Thornbury, Northcote, Coburg, Heidelberg, Fairfield and Ivanhoe. If you are a suburb or two further out, ring and ask. We keep the area tight on purpose so that same-day fault calls stay realistic.
Q.08How long will my power be off?
It depends on the job. Adding a power point or a light usually means one circuit is off for an hour or so while the rest of the house stays on. A fault call can mean short interruptions while we test. A switchboard upgrade takes the whole house off for most of a working day, so we tell you the day in advance and you can plan around the fridge and anyone working from home.
Something not right with the power?
Call and talk to an electrician, or send the details and we will ring you back the same business day.
