Washing the filters is your job, and it helps. Once a year or two the parts behind them need a proper clean as well. Dust and mould build up on the indoor coil and fan barrel, which is where the musty smell comes from and why an older unit feels weaker than it used to. We clean it with the right gear, flush the drain and check the pressures and temperatures.
