About us
A small solar crew based in Northcote
We design, install and repair solar for houses in the inner north, and we do the sums with you first.
Sunpenny is a small solar crew working out of Northcote. We started with a simple idea: nobody should buy a solar system on the strength of a sales pitch. So we begin with your power bill. It tells us how much you use, when you use it and what you pay, and that decides what size system makes sense for your house.
The roofs around here take some thought. Blocks are narrow, tiles are old, terraces share walls, and the street trees are big. We design for that with panels split across east and west faces, and microinverters or optimisers where shade would otherwise hold a whole string back. Most houses are single phase with an export limit, so we size the system to suit what you will use.
Our systems are designed and installed by SAA-accredited installers, and the electrical work is done by A-Grade electricians. We use panels, inverters and batteries from the Clean Energy Council approved products list, which is what makes a system eligible for STCs. We lodge the grid connection application for you and hand over the Certificate of Electrical Safety.

From customers
What people said after the install
“They asked for my bill before they quoted anything, then showed me why 6.6 kW was enough. The other mob wanted to sell me 10. Panels are split east and west because of next door's extension.”
“Our old inverter had been dead for months and we had no idea. Turned out to be a rooftop isolator full of water as well. They sent photos, gave me one price and had it going again that week.”
“I rang about a battery and was told to wait, because we don't export enough in winter yet. Got the car charger instead and it runs off the panels most sunny days. Appreciated the straight answer.”
